Date Night with Sheila

7/11/11
Sometimes, Sheila and Tanyon have date night when Paul and I need some time together. On this particular date night, Sheila and Tanyon went to a local taqueria and had quesadillas. Then, Sheila fulfilled a dream by taking Tanyon to Foster Freeze for an ice cream. When they got home, Tanyon had a huge grin with sticky ice cream surrounding his lips. Such a great time!

Fun Clothes

Aunt April loves to get Tanyon fun shirts to wear.  Here is the latest, sock monkey as King-Kong...
Trying on dad's socks was lots of fun.  Eventually, he needed them back, so he could get ready for work.

Later that day, Tanyon got to play with his best friend and neighbor, Maya. They gave each other rides on his trike...

Golf in his underwear

Tanyon was so excited about the new underwear he picked out at the store, that he decided to play a little golf in them and show the neighborhood his new skivvies.

Potty Training

In early July, we started the ever dreaded potty training. However, I was very surprised at how quickly Tanyon picked it up.  We were having a hot spell, so he spent most of the time without a diaper or pants on. Then, whenever he had the urge to go, he would run to the potty and go. Peeing was much easier than training him to go poop.  Usually it is opposite for most kids, but not our guy. Many stickers on the chart later and just a few accidents and Tanyon seemed to have gotten it. He spent the whole weekend using the potty. Unfortunately, that Monday he went to school and was definately not ready to try their potty. Then, he went to Nana and Bapa's Tuesday and wasn't great about using his special potty there. By Wednesday, he was not as interested in the whole process.  However, he isn't completely turned off to it. A month later, he still uses the potty a couple times a day. We'll get there eventually.

First Friday in RR Square

Tanyon loves music and dancing, so I decided to take him to RR Square for First Friday.  Each month during the summer the city closes down the street and  they have a couple of bands, wine tasting and food. Aunt Sheila joined us for part of the evening:
Tanyon also got Papa, Tete and Gramie J to dance with him:

Yosemite Part 1

At the end of June, Tanyon and I joined many of our family members for a weekend in Yosemite to celebrate Aunt Julia's graduation from college. It was Tanyon's first trip to the beautiful park

Here we are at the entrance sign with Aunt April:
April rode with us to the park and we were the first of our party to arrive.  Our campsite was near the park entrance, around 30 minutes outside the valley. We let Tanyon explore the campsite, while we unloaded the car. Within 2 minutes, he came to see us looking like this:
He had found the burnt logs left over from the previous campers' fire. He decorated his nose, near his eye and his hands before I got a hold of him.

After Tanyon got cleaned up, he read books while he waited for the others to arrive:
Hanging out with mommy, waiting for dinner:
The next day, we all went into the valley. April went on a monster hike that lasted 12 hours, Julia and Bryan went off on their own for the morning, so Tanyon and I joined Papa and Tete in walking around the valley floor. Here Tanyon is with Tete on the shuttle:
After walking around a little bit, we went to the Awahni Hotel and had lunch on the grass:
That is where Julia and Bryan met us...
 Newly ENGAGED!:
We were very happy for the beautiful couple.  They were beaming with excitement:

Yosemite Part 2

In front of the lower Yosemite Falls:
Half Dome seen through the trees:
There was a children's book author and illustrator signing his books.  Tanyon was interested in the main character of his book who was a racoon. Papa and Tete kindly bought the book for him and the artist did a special portrait of Tanyon:

Father's Day Hike

For Father's Day this year, we went for a hike up Mt. St. Helena with my dad and sisters.

April's boyfriend Matt kindly carried Tanyon up most of the trail:
Paul showed Tanyon how to throw rocks off of the cliff:
Tanyon borrowed Papa's walking sticks for a little break from the backpack:
 Happy Father's Day, Dad!

New Friends

At the end of June, Tanyon and I went up to Papa and Tete's house.  We were pleased that they had some guests over that Tanyon could play with.  Papa has a former high jumper named John, who comes to see him whenever he is in town.  So, John, his wife Dorsey and their children, Lincoln, Christian, and Juliette were all there.  Tanyon hit it off with 2 year old Christian right away.
Here they are climbing the fence:
